Our Science Olympiad Team draws middle and high school age homeschoolers from around the Triangle area of North Carolina.
Science Olympiad is a science competition which started in 1974 in North Carolina and is now a national event with teams from all 50 states participating. Teams consist of 15 members who work together in groups of 2 or 3 to compete in different science events, everything from cracking codes to building a helicopter to solving crimes.
If you have questions or are interested in joining, email Nicole Graysmith, ngraysmith@gmail.com and plan to attend one of our meetings (see below).

We plan to participate in the Durham Regional Tournament which will be held February 28, 2026.
How to Join Bull City Homeschoolers
After attending a meeting or reaching out to us via email, you must fill out a registration form and pay the fee ($85/$70 for additional siblings). This fee pays for us to register the teams, gets all members a t-shirt and pays for snacks and supplies. Registration forms will be available in mid September. Science Olympiad has a few rules that we must follow - team members have to live within a 60 mile radius of our registered address and members must be at the appropriate age level. We also require members to be available for the regional tournament date, and for the middle school team members, the state tournament date as well.
Our team was founded by Michelle Merrill and Michael Van Kanagan in 2015. Michelle and Mike coached the team successfully for 10 years, leading Bull City to the following regional recognitions and awards:
2016-2017: Division B 3rd Place Regionals
2017-2018: Division B: 1st Place Regionals
