North Carolina has a unique way of handling event scheduling.
Please read this in its entirety before deciding which events you would like to participate in.
Regional Tournaments
At regional tournaments, there will be three periods in which teams members can compete in events. This means that team members can compete in up to 3 events, and since events are scheduled only one period, team members will have to choose between events scheduled in any given period. For example, this year, Anatomy and Physiology, Boomilever, Crime Busters, Helicopter, Heredity and Rocks and Minerals are all in the same period for the middle school. Each team is given a number which tells them when their team will compete in events. Here is the event schedule for this years Regional Tournament.
State Tournament
There are two ways team members have the opportunity to enjoy the State tournament. Teams who have a high enough team score to place in the top 1, 2 and sometimes 3 spots at a Regional Tournament will get to go as a team to the State tournament. In the past, our team has done this a number of times. Team members who place 1st at the regional tournament in a particular event are also allowed to go to the State tournament to compete only in that event.
Each year there are events to compete in that only happen at the State Tournament. Typically, these include Experimental Design, Mission Possible and a few others. If you are interested in competing in any of these events, you must also be aware of any conflicts these events might have with your chosen regional events. At States, there are 6 event periods, with three events requiring a sit down test per period and around 4 build events which can be scheduled during any period. There will be at most one event held only at states in any given period. Here is the event schedule from States for April 2025 - we will put the schedule for next year up as soon as we have it:
